Having trouble choosing the right lighting for your space?
Three Birds tell us how.

Known for their incredible transformations and eye for design Three Birds Renovations came from courageous beginnings. Walking away from their corporate careers three best friends, Bonnie Lana and Erin together decided to pursue a more fulfilling life, one that is fuelled by love and driven by passion. It’s no secret that we gush over their amazing interiors, so it was only fitting to sit down with Bonnie (Creative Director) to ask how she approaches adding lighting to her designs.

What are your considerations when looking for lighting?

"The first consideration I make is a bit of an emotional one... I just need to love it. I know pretty quickly if I like something and I'm always looking for products which are a little bit special in some way. The second consideration is if I think it's unique. I love using pendants and sconces to really lift a space and that's what I love about lighting collective products - they are just so unique. Finally lighting needs to create a moment within your home - either it's a mood-based moment and delivers gorgeous soft lighting or it's task-based and perhaps it's a bit more functional."

How is light important to your space?

"It's really important because it's what creates the mood for your home, and it creates these moments of 'wow' from a design perspective. I love the way lighting can draw your attention to a certain area."

How do you pick the right light fixtures for your desired style?

"The first thing you need to do is to be really clear on your style. For this home, I was looking for a relaxed coastal vibe so everything I chose had a really coastal feel. But I wanted a few special pieces which would glam up the space and that's why I chose the lighting I did. The gold tones really helped me achieve that touch of glam whilst still being true to the theme in the shapes they represented."
